“Men are too blind and senseless to foresee the share of good and ill to come.”

 

νήιδες ἄνθρωποι καὶ ἀφράδμονες οὔτ᾽ ἀγαθοῖο

αἶσαν ἐπερχομένου προγνώμεναι οὔτε κακοῖο:

 

So says Demeter, a dread divinity to say the least…
