Herodotus 1.10.9-11.1

 

“…among the Lydians and many of the rest of the barbarians for a man to be seen naked brings great shame”

 

….σχεδὸν δὲ καὶ παρὰ τοῖσι ἄλλοισι βαρβάροισι, καὶ ἄνδρα ὀφθῆναι

γυμνὸν ἐς αἰσχύνην μεγάλην φέρει.

 

But not for the Greeks….
