In his Allegories of the Iliad, John Tzetzes has a habit of interjecting comments on his own intelligence into his work:

“But John Tzetzes can spin a fine allegory, so you should pay attention!”

ό Τζέτζης δ᾽ ἃπαντα λεπτῶς ἀλληγορεῖ. Καὶ πρόσσχες.
